TERRA:FORM

A conversation into the energy structures of Finnish earth.

Terra:Forms is an immersive, multi-room exhibition by artist Benjamin Knock exploring the geo-physical forces that continue to shape the Finnish landscape.

Inspired by Ostrobothnia’s ongoing post-glacial rebound—one of the fastest land-rise phenomena on Earth—Terra:Forms examines the slow emergence of new terrain through hand-blown glass, cast brass sculpture, locally sourced stone, large-scale paintings, suspended molten-form installations, LiDAR-based animations, and immersive sonic environments. Drawing connections between deep planetary processes and the visible transformation of the Nordic environment, the exhibition reveals a landscape that is not static, but continuously formed through immense forces acting across vast scales of time.

Across a series of interconnected environments, Terra:Forms traces the movement of energy from the Earth’s interior to the surface and beyond. Geological uplift is presented as an active structure linking core, mantle, crust, atmosphere, and cosmos, transforming scientific phenomena into immersive sensory experiences. Visitors move through atmospheric chambers filled with sculptural forms, resonant soundscapes, and large-scale moving-image works generated from geological field research and LiDAR scanning technologies. Blurring the boundaries between art, science, and environmental observation, Terra:Forms offers a poetic meditation on Earth’s continual becoming, positioning Finland’s rising landscape as both a geological phenomenon and a living record of planetary transformation.

Through this ambitious new body of work, Knock invites audiences to consider the invisible systems that shape the world beneath their feet and the vast temporal forces that continue to terraform the Earth today.

Artist biography

Benjamin Knock is a multidisciplinary artist dedicated to captivating the public’s imagination and bridging the gap between our modern, technology-based Anthropocene and the ancient geophysical forces that have sculpted the Earth’s surface. His diverse practice spans fine art studio work, large-scale murals, digital world building, handblown glass, and sculptural installations, drawing deep inspiration from geology and the hidden strata beneath our feet.

Having grown up on the rugged southwestern Australian coastline, surrounded by untouched, raw, elemental landscapes, Benjamin’s creative process is deeply informed by direct volcanic fieldwork and geological analysis. These immersive investigations into primordial terrain and deep time provide both the scientific and visual foundations for his evolving practice. His work seeks to materialise the terraforming processes that have forged and continue to shape the planet we all call home.

WIC Exhibitions

Terra:Forms will be presented within the newly constructed black marble catacombs at the WIC Energy Hall, and the exhibition serves as a headline for the Wasa Future Festival 2026.

Bock’s Corner is located just 2.4 km from the city centre. The area is easily accessible by car, public transport, bike or on foot. The address is Pohjolankatu 1, VAASA (Destination: Wasa Innovation Center and Bock’s).

The Exhibitions section of Wasa Innovation Center is located in the courtyard on the corner of Pohjolankatu and Gerbyntie – across the street from Bock’s restaurant.
